Odisha: Dissolved co-ops wait for elections

Naveen Patnaik govt seems unconcerned with the affairs of cooperatives as elections to the cooperative organizations in Odisha are inordinately delayed.

This amounts to violating the 97th constitutional amendment that mandates the holding of elections within 18 months. The state govt. has already dissolved the elected cooperatives but it has yet to begin efforts for holding fresh elections.

Sources say the delayed vote is harming thousands of cooperative organizations in the state.

Sources add the independent cooperative election commission’ set up in the state seems to have fallen into a deep sleep and this defies belief.
