Odisha: Co-op loss is RMC’s gain

The strike by the workers of co-ops in Odisha has benefitted the Regulated Market Committees (RMCs). In the wake of non cooperation from PACS and LAMPS RMCs have been asked by the state govt to procure paddy.

For managing the procurement operation, each of the RMC will provide an employee who will function as purchase officer (PO) and procure paddy from designated paddy purchase centres or mandis of each PACS/LAMPS under its jurisdiction, media reports say.

Earlier, the workers of Large Area Multi-Purpose Cooperative Societies (LAMPS) and Primary Agriculture Cooperative Societies (PACS) differed on the points of strike. Among the five-point demands, implementation of recommendations of the 7th pay commission figures prominently.
