The Odisha government has granted in-principle approval to India Potash Limited (IPL) to revive two defunct cooperative sugar mills in Bolangir and Cuttack, aiming to transform them into integrated agro-industrial hubs.
IPL, a key player in India’s fertilizer sector, has been asked to submit a Detailed Project Report (DPR) and model its revival roadmap on the successful Gujarat experience.
Each unit will require 40–50 acres of land and sugarcane cultivation across 15,000 hectares, including 6,000 hectares for the Bolangir unit.
In line with this, the state plans to intensify sugarcane farming from FY 2025–26 to ensure sustained supply and farmer engagement.
