No shortage of DAP in Punjab: Central Govt
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Recent media claims about a shortage of Di-ammonium Phosphate (DAP) in Punjab, affecting Rabi crop prospects, are misleading, claims a PIB release.

The government has already ensured sufficient supplies of DAP and other essential fertilizers, including Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium (NPK) fertilizers, for the state.

As of early October 2024, Punjab had 99,000 metric tonnes (MT) of DAP, 59,000 MT of NPK, and 78,000 MT of Single Superphosphate (SSP) in stock. During October, an additional 92,000 MT of DAP, 18,000 MT of NPK, and 9,000 MT of SSP were supplied, totaling 191,000 MT of DAP, 77,000 MT of NPK, and 87,000 MT of SSP. Consumption data indicates that about 90,000 MT of DAP, 49,000 MT of NPK, and 76,000 MT of SSP remain available for farmers.

Although the Red Sea crisis, causing ships to detour via the Cape of Good Hope, impacted DAP imports, the government has managed stable fertilizer prices and optimal domestic production.

Close coordination with the Ministry of Railways, State Government, Port Authorities, and Fertilizer Companies is ensuring effective supply management, making fertilizer available and affordable for Punjab’s Rabi season, states the govt media agency.
