The Madras High Court has refused to entertain a PIL petition seeking a ruling in favor of the reservation policy in cooperative society elections reports Hindu.
The petition claimed that as the state government has refused to follow the reservation policy in the society elections, no Scheduled Caste person has been elected to the post of president of a cooperative society since the Tamil Nadu Cooperative Societies Act, 1983 was enacted.
However, the govt contested the petition saying 25,603 societies were in existence in the State and the number of Board of Directors elected from the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes community was 33,761 out of the total elected members of 2,32,642.
