No limit on the number of co-ops in an area: HC

The High Court of Karnataka has ruled that the Karnataka Cooperative Societies Act does not ban the number of cooperative bodies to be registered in an area but only wants various factors to be considered before giving permission for a new cooperative in the same area, reports The Hindu.

The court said while giving permission for a new cooperative body, things like overlapping of the existing and similar co-operative societies needed to be avoided.

A petitioner-society had questioned the permission granted for an agriculturist for promoting another similar society in the same area in which the petitioner-society is operating.
