The Government has informed the Lok Sabha that groundwater in Bareilly and Badaun districts has not reported fluoride levels above the permissible limit, and monitoring data is not specific to the vicinity of Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO).
Responding to a question by MP Neeraj Maurya, Minister of State for Environment Kirti Vardhan Singh said that groundwater quality data is generated by the Central Ground Water Board through nationwide monitoring and scientific studies following approved procedures.
According to the Annual Ground Water Quality Report–2025, no instance of fluoride exceeding the permissible limit of 1.5 mg/l has been recorded in Bareilly and Badaun districts of the Aonla Lok Sabha constituency.
The Minister further stated that groundwater quality monitoring carried out under the national programme covers the Badaun district, but the observations are not specific to areas surrounding IFFCO facilities.
The Government also referred to the environmental assessment framework developed by the Central Pollution Control Board. Under its Comprehensive Environmental Pollution Index (CEPI) system, industrial areas are classified based on pollution levels, with scores of 70 and above indicating critically polluted areas.
