In a bid to enhance the professional capabilities of Dairy Cooperative Society (DCS) secretaries, the Eastern Regional Demonstration & Training Centre of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) at Siliguri, West Bengal, recently conducted a 21-day residential training programme exclusively for women.

The programme was sponsored by Kosi Milk Union under the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) scheme.

A total of 15 female participants attended the training, which focused on improving their knowledge, skills, and overall efficiency in managing cooperative societies. The course covered a wide range of classroom topics, including cooperative principles and bylaws, roles and responsibilities of DCS secretaries, committee management, milk procurement, and quality control.

Special emphasis was placed on member relations, extension services, and animal husbandry, covering key areas such as nutrition, breeding, and animal health. Participants were also trained in administrative and financial management, with dedicated sessions on record maintenance and member engagement.

Hands-on training included milk testing, equipment handling, silage preparation, urea straw treatment, and vermicomposting, ensuring practical exposure alongside theory. The programme marks a significant step toward empowering women in the dairy cooperative sector and strengthening grassroots dairy operations.
