Dr. Meenesh Shah, Chairman of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), called on Delhi Chief Secretary Rajeev Verma to present an overview of NDDB’s initiatives on scientific dung management and the circular bio-economy. The meeting focused on exploring sustainable solutions for managing dung in the national capital through biogas and manure-based value chains.
Municipal Corporation of Delhi Commissioner Ashwini Kumar and Shurbir Singh, Commissioner and Secretary (Development), Government of NCT of Delhi, also participated in the discussions. Deliberations centred on leveraging dung as a resource to support environmental sustainability while addressing urban waste management challenges.
A key emphasis was placed on aligning dung management strategies with the Clean Yamuna initiative, particularly through the production of compressed biogas (CBG) and organic manure. The participants discussed a future roadmap for efficient utilisation of dung to reduce pollution and promote renewable energy.
It was agreed that NDDB would extend technical and strategic support in preparing a comprehensive roadmap for setting up CBG plants and establishing a manure value chain in Delhi. NDDB will also assist in the implementation of these initiatives to strengthen the city’s circular bio-economy framework.
