The big question doing the rounds at NCUI is whether Chief Executive Sudhir Mahajan will continue in his role or step down, following the recent presidential directive to remove several contractual staff—many of whom were reportedly brought in by Mahajan himself.
Some of these contractual employees, drawing hefty salaries, were appointed during Mahajan’s tenure. With the growing chatter around alleged fund mismanagement, the NCUI grapevine is abuzz with speculation on Mahajan’s next step.
Though he may not be directly implicated, the fact remains that these consultants operated under his watch and in close coordination with the CE. Insiders say he appeared visibly upset during the Sikkim Board meeting where the issue was formally raised.
According to a highly placed source, NCUI President Dileep Sanghani brought up the matter without prior notice to anyone, thereby ensuring that his decision couldn’t be challenged or diluted.
Some Governing Council members later admitted that when the President is this resolute—and possibly in possession of sensitive information—his stance is nearly impossible to oppose.
