The apex body of cooperatives-NCUI organized a condolence meeting at its headquarters to pay tributes to B S Vishwanathan, former President of NCUI, who passed away on 24th September 2023 in Bengaluru.
Dr Sudhir Mahajan, Chief Executive, NCUI, Gurpratap Singh Khushalpur, Member, NCUI Governing Council, Savitri Singh, Dy CE, NCUI, & all NCUI officials were present in the meeting.
Ritesh Dey, Director (Pers), NCUI, presented a brief profile of BS Vishwanathan on this occasion.
Born in a respectable agricultural family, BS Vishwanathan in 1963 got elected as Director of Primary Agricultural Development Bank, Tirthali in Shimoga district of Karnataka.
After getting elected to the Governing Council of NCUI, BS Vishwanathan became its President in 1973. The cooperative movement since then has been progressing in all areas of socio-economic activities.
He was President of NCUI for 14 years over two spells, during which period the apex body earned national & global fame.
BS Vishwanathan served as Chairman of National Cooperative Agricultural & Rural Development Banks’ Federation for 14 years over two spells.
He represented India in ICA for a record period of 27 years. BS Vishwanathan also served as Director of IFFCO for 42 years. Being the founder of National Institute of Rural Banking, he continued to be its Chairman for a long period.
