As part of the International Year of Cooperatives 2025, the NCDC Regional Training Centre, Chennai organised a one-day training-cum-awareness programme for Fisheries Farmer Producer Organizations (FFPOs) under the PMMSY scheme at Mallipattinam in Thanjavur district.
The programme was inaugurated by T. Elamvazhuthi, Joint Director of Fisheries (Nagapattinam), who outlined the objectives and welcomed the participants. A total of 116 representatives, including managers and members of FFPOs, took part in the event.
The training aimed at improving understanding of the PMMSY scheme, NCDC’s role as an Implementation Agency, and the importance of strengthening primary fisheries cooperatives for sustainable and inclusive growth. Participants were urged to diversify fisheries-based value chain activities to enhance livelihood opportunities and promote social equity.
Sessions covered documentation procedures, fund utilisation, MIS reporting, business development and value addition. Expert speakers included Prabu Paulraj, Regional Director, NCDC; E. Kathavarayan, GM, TAFCOFED; and representatives from the M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation.
The programme concluded with an interactive valediction session led by Prabu Paulraj, supported by Sachin Sharma and Ariharan from NCDC’s Regional Office, Chennai.
