NCDC: Puducherry pushes Women-Led Deep Sea Fishing
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

A delegation from the National Cooperative Development Corporation met the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, Kuniyil Kailashnathan, to advance deep sea fishing vessel projects under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana.

The discussions focused on accelerating approvals and strengthening cooperative participation in the fisheries sector, particularly through women-led initiatives.

A key outcome of the meeting was the decision to fast-track four proposals for deep sea fishing vessels submitted by women fisheries cooperative societies. These proposals are expected to be submitted shortly to the NCDC for appraisal and approval.

The projects aim to enhance fishing capacity, improve livelihoods, and promote sustainable marine fishing practices in the Union Territory.

Officials said the initiatives would empower coastal women entrepreneurs by providing institutional support and access to modern fishing infrastructure. The move aligns with national efforts to boost fisheries growth while ensuring inclusive and cooperative-driven development.
