Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday highlighted the expanding role of the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) in strengthening cooperative infrastructure, while replying in the Rajya Sabha.
In his written reply, Shah stated that NCDC extended financial assistance of Rs 24.18 crore in 2024-25 and Rs 23.86 crore in 2025–26 (till March 9) for cooperative development in Tamil Nadu, covering Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) and Fish Farmer Producer Organizations (FFPOs).
He further informed that a Rs 600 crore term loan has been sanctioned under the Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF) to TAFCOFED for the construction and expansion of four fishing harbours, boosting the state’s fisheries sector.
Additionally, a major proposal from TANFED seeking Rs 10,000 crore short-term credit for MSP procurement operations is currently under active consideration.
Shah emphasized that NCDC follows a project-based, non-state-specific funding model, ensuring equitable distribution of financial support across states through its own resources and market borrowings.
