In a surprising development during the announcement of office bearers for the Maharashtra-based Nagpur Multi-State Cooperative Credit Society, the Cooperative Election Authority disapproved the nomination of Jitendra Wasnik for the post of Chairperson, while approving his wife, Neha Wasnik, as the new Vice-Chairperson.
The Election Authority cited that Jitendra Wasnik had already completed two consecutive terms as Chairperson, rendering him ineligible for a third term under cooperative governance norms.
Specifically, the authority referenced Sub-Section 2 of Section 44 of the MSCS Act, 2002, which states, “No member of a board shall be eligible to be elected as the chairperson or president of a multi-state cooperative society after he has held the office as such during two consecutive terms, whether full or part.”
Highlighting this, the Authority pointed to Column No. (xxxv) of the Fact Sheet, where it is clearly mentioned that Wasnik had completed two terms as Chairperson. Consequently, the Returning Officer has been asked to revisit and revise his recommendations in view of this violation.
When contacted by Indian Cooperative for his comments, Jitendra Wasnik declined to respond directly but conveyed via a message: “We are in communication with our Nagpur District Magistrate and the Election Authority in Delhi.”
It is worth noting that elections for the Nagpur Multi-State Cooperative Credit Society were held in March 2025, with results announced for the seven board of directors’ seats. The elected directors include Jitendra Wasnik, Namdeo Nachankar, Anil Parwarkar, Shyam Borikar, Neha Wasnik, Nikita Jangid, and Satish Dhok.
