Nagpur: Co-op banks go belly up

Several cooperative banks in Nagpur have gone belly-up but their management boards have yet to be punished. The Maharashtra govt’s dept of cooperatives only obstructs action being taken against them.

Samta Bank and Nagpur Mahila Bank are a case in point. A number of scams have been waiting for years to be dealt with. The state’s minister of cooperatives Mr. H.Patil is being slammed as the minister of delay and obstruction.

Sources say the minister has deliberately sat tight on various scam files in order to help the guilty to get away with their wrongdoings. Most of the affected banks could have been saved from crisis if those in the wrong had been punished on time, add sources.
