NAFSCOB brainstorms on business growth plans

Nafscob organized a regional consultation/workshop with Rural Cooperative Banks on Measures to Expand Business Growth During Amrit Kaal (2022-2047) recently at Chandigarh, in which representatives of StCBs and DCCBs participated.

Punjab State Cooperative Bank Chairman and Special Chief Secretary Dr Vijoy Kumar Singh presented the keynote address. Nafscob Chairman Konduru Ravinder Rao, Vice-Chairman Devendra Shyam, Punjab RCS Dr Vimal Kumar Setia, Haryana StCB MD Prafulla Ranjan, HP StCB MD Shrawan Kumar Manta and others attended the event.

In his speech, the Nafscob Chairman focused on a strong consultative relationship between the Ministry of Cooperation and Nafscob. Diversifying their business is the need of the hour for cooperative banks and they should do it in accordance with the spirit of cooperation. The banks should make strategies to achieve the targets in Amrit Kaal”, he added.

Addressing the participants, Nafscob Vice-Chairman Devendra Shyam highlighted various initiatives the Ministry of Cooperation took in the interest of strengthening the cooperative movement. The cooperative banks should adopt the latest technology in their activities with an objective to compete with other players in the market, he emphasized.

Punjab RCS Dr Vimal Kumar Setia lauded the efforts of Nafscob in strengthening the cooperative sector of the country and said Nafscob is the most vital part of the cooperative in the country. He also praised the ‘Verka’ brand of Punjab Milkfed on becoming the successful cooperative model in the state.

However, striking a note of disappointment in his remarks, Setia said the recovery is the biggest challenge facing the cooperative sector. He suggested cooperative banks could use the cutting edge technology in their business to deal with their multiple problems.

Kangra Central Cooperative Bank Chairman Kuldeep Pathania advocated for an effective model of governance in cooperative banks. Haryana StCB MD Prafulla Ranjan’s speech focused on lack of resources, competition with other players, technological constraints etc.

Himachal Pradesh StCB’s MD presented a summary of recommendations whereas Nabard DMD Dr Ajay Kumar also spoke on the occasion.
