The agri cooperative-Nafed procured 8042.01MT red onion worth Rs 7.67 crore from the farmers of Maharashtra and Gujarat. The number of farmers benefitted are 2247.
Releasing the figures through social media, Nafed informed that from the state of Maharashtra, 7949.25MT red onion has been procured whereas from Gujarat, 92.77 MT purchased from the farmers.
The procured onion is dispatched across India to states of Delhi, Assam, Bihar, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh etc. The procurement is still in progress.
A day prior to this, Union Minister of State for Agriculture Ms Shobha Karandlaje had appreciated the efforts of agri cooperative Nafed for helping the onion farmers and stabilizing prices.
