MUCBF to hold SGM to discuss Directors’ Tenure

The Maharashtra Urban Co-operative Banks Federation (MUCBF) will convene a Special General Body Meeting on January 3, 2026, to deliberate on key regulatory challenges facing Urban Co-operative Banks, including issues related to directors’ tenure and recent amendments to banking laws.

The meeting will focus on major amendments to the Banking Regulation (Co-operative Societies) Rules, 1966, which prescribe a clear procedure for identifying ineligible directors and determining vacation of office in co-operative banks.

Members will also discuss difficulties arising from the Banking Regulation (Amendment) Act, 2025, as notified in the Gazette on April 15, 2025, and chart out the future course of action.

In addition, the Special General Body Meeting will take up challenges arising from the Gazette notification issued by the Union Ministry of Finance on December 10, 2025, and its impact on Urban Co-operative Banks.

The meeting will be held at Sahakar Sabhagruh, Cosmos Tower, 2nd Floor, 132-B, Ganeshkhind Road, Range Hill Corner, ICS Colony, Pune, and will be presided over by MUCBF President Ajay Brahmecha. The Federation has appealed to all member institutions to attend the meeting.
