In a significant gesture of support for farmers affected by heavy rains in Maharashtra, the Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank (MSCB) donated Rs 10 crore from its profits to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund on Tuesday.
On behalf of the Bank, MSCB Administrative Board Chairman Shri Vidyadhar Anaskar handed over the cheque to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Mumbai, in the presence of Deputy CM Ajit Pawar and Eknath Shinde.
Following the handover, the CMO Maharashtra tweeted, “A cheque of Rs 10 crore was handed over to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Mumbai by Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank towards the CM Relief Fund for those affected by heavy rains in the State. The Chief Minister expressed his gratitude.”
Recognized as the “farmers’ bank,” MSCB serves as the apex institution in Maharashtra’s three-tier cooperative credit structure. In FY 2024–25, it disbursed loans totaling Rs 16,898 crore to farmers, accounting for 47% of its total lending, while 26% of loans were extended through sugar cooperatives.
Describing the donation as a “token of ethical support,” Anaskar said the move underscores MSCB’s farmer-first commitment, as symbolized in its emblem. He also urged other cooperative institutions in the state to contribute from their profits to assist farmers during this crisis.
