To ensure transparency and prevent irregularities in the recruitment process of district co-operative banks across Maharashtra, the State Government has recently initiated measures mandating that all direct recruitment be conducted only through reputed agencies such as the IBPS or TCS.
Against this backdrop, the Maharashtra State Co-operative Bank has announced that it has been following this policy since 2021, conducting its direct recruitment as well as internal promotion examinations through the renowned autonomous agency IBPS.
This year, the bank extended the same policy to the recruitment for the posts of ‘Peon’ and ‘Driver’. For just six driver positions, the bank received 397 applications, while 1,092 candidates applied for 58 peon posts. The online examination for all applicants was held on September 25. The final interviews are being conducted today, December 10, 2025, by IBPS.
Employee unions have welcomed the bank’s decision to implement this policy even for entry-level posts such as Peon and Driver. They said that if discipline is to be maintained in the co-operative banking sector, major co-operative banks as well as smaller ones must collectively adopt such transparent recruitment systems.
According to them, this will not only boost the confidence of merit-based candidates but also enhance public trust and improve the overall image of co-operative banks.
