MP: Co-op Banks to issue receipts of premiums

Farmers in the state of Madhya Pradesh are paying crop insurance premium but are not getting any receipt for the same. Hence, a farmer does not have evidence of premium payment. This matter was raised by a Congress MLA in the House, reports Times of India.

The Congress MLAs alleged that while the matter was of prime importance it is directly related to the agrarian community which is presently undergoing a crisis after severe drought conditions in the state. He reasoned that farmers are being deceived by the agriculture department and the cooperative banks which are not issuing documental proof of crop insurance premium payment.

Agriculture minister Bisen accepted that receipts are not issued on payment of crop insurance premium. He assured that the matter would be addressed. There was ruckus in the House with Congress claiming they were not satisfied with the minister’s reply.

Speaker Sitasharan Sharma intervened and said the government needed to address the issue since it is linked to farmers. Following Speaker’s observation, minister for panchayats and rural development Gopal Bhargava assured that House that receipts will henceforth be issued to farmers on payment of premium for crop insurance.
