The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the assignment of additional charge of Secretary, Ministry of Cooperation, to Devesh Chaturvedi, IAS (UP:1989). Currently serving as Secretary, Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Chaturvedi will hold this additional post from June 16 to June 26, 2025, during the leave period of Ashish Kumar Bhutani, IAS (AM:1992).
Chaturvedi is a senior bureaucrat with vast experience in rural development, agriculture, and public administration.
His current role in the Agriculture Ministry aligns closely with the objectives of the Ministry of Cooperation, which is focused on empowering cooperative institutions, especially Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) and other grassroots bodies.
The Ministry of Cooperation has been playing a pivotal role in policy reforms aimed at strengthening India’s cooperative ecosystem. Chaturvedi’s temporary charge is expected to ensure seamless functioning and continued momentum in policy implementation during Bhutani’s absence.
The order was issued by Manisha Saxena, Secretary, Appointments Committee of the Cabinet and Establishment Officer, Department of Personnel and Training.
The government’s decision reflects its trust in Chaturvedi’s ability to manage dual responsibilities effectively and maintain administrative continuity across two key ministries impacting rural India.
