Ministry aims 215 mn tonnes storage in five years

The Ministry of Cooperation is set to establish the world’s largest food grain storage, planning collaborations with the Department of Consumer Affairs, NABARD, NCDC and NCCF, reports the Mint.

The initiative aims to integrate godowns at the Primary Agricultural Credit Society (PACS) level with the national food grain supply chain, facilitating market linkages.

India, with a current grain storage capacity of 145 million tonnes, plans to expand to 215 million tonnes over the next five years, addressing annual losses due to inadequate storage.
