Milkfed suspends GM after rejection of Milk Powder

In a significant action over quality concerns, the Punjab State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation Limited has placed the General Manager of Ludhiana District Cooperative Milk Producers Union Ltd., Daljit Singh, under suspension with immediate effect.

The decision follows the rejection of two consignments of milk powder, totalling over 120 metric tonnes, by the Indian Army due to the presence of extraneous material in samples. The consignments were supplied by the Ludhiana Milk Union, with the issue formally communicated by Army authorities in February and March 2026.

Milkfed termed the lapse as serious, stating that it undermines the organisation’s credibility and amounts to “major misconduct” under its service rules, including negligence in duty and acts prejudicial to the institution.

As per the order issued by Managing Director Rahul Gupta, disciplinary proceedings have been initiated. During the suspension period, the official will receive subsistence allowance as per rules, with headquarters fixed at Milkfed’s Chandigarh office.

The development highlights strict enforcement of quality standards within the cooperative dairy sector.
