Talking to journalists Punjab Cooperation minister has said Markfed should stop procuring grains as it causes losses, reports Hindustan Times.
The minister added the government would like to draw the cooperative federation out of procurement.
The minister also revealed that Markfed will give a big push to Verka branded milk in the national capital, New Delhi.
According to the minister, sugar mills in the cooperative sector run under Sugarfed will be converted into ‘sugar complexes, each of them with a distillery, a cogeneration plant and ethanol producing unit.
The minister stressed the importance of merger of cooperative banks in order to make the cooperative banking sector effective.
