Markfed fails in fertilizer storage

The problem of shortage of storage facilities for fertlisers in Sundargarh district in Odisha has assumed such a proportion that the Odisha state cooperative marketing federation had to take on rent a depot at Rajamund from Regional cooperative marketing society in a bid to support farmers.

The rain-fed Sundargarh district in Odisha suffers from a chronic shortage of storage facilities. This has badly hit the farmers in the area.

But unfortunately the Markfed has failed to put necessary storage facilities in place so far. The Markfed has a total storage capacity of a mere 2,500 tonnes in the district as against the demand for 25,000 tonnes.

However, Markfed manager in Sundargarh B.N. Padhi claims all possible efforts are being made to spike storage capacity in the area.
