Dr. Mangal Jit Rai, Chairman of the Sikkim State Cooperative Union (SICUN) and Chief Coordinator of the North East States Cooperative Unions’ Forum (NESCUF), met Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah at Atal Akshay Urja Bhawan in New Delhi on Wednesday evening.

During the meeting, Dr. Rai briefed the Minister on the progress of the cooperative movement in Sikkim under the leadership of Chief Minister P.S. Tamang (Golay) and with the active support of Cooperation Minister Arun Upreti and Secretary-cum-Registrar Ms. Jabi Thapa. He highlighted how Sikkim has effectively implemented the Centre’s “Sahakar Se Samriddhi” vision through inclusive and community-based cooperative initiatives.

Dr. Rai also apprised Shah of the successful conduct of the first North East States Cooperative Unions’ Forum (NESCUF) held in Sikkim, which brought together leaders from all eight northeastern states to strengthen regional cooperation.

He submitted a proposal to establish a North East Cooperative Excellence Training Centre (NECTC) in Sikkim as a regional hub for cooperative leadership, entrepreneurship, and digital governance.

Amit Shah commended Dr. Rai’s efforts and expressed interest in attending the upcoming Rashtriya Sahkari Sammelan and Maila Samvad to be hosted by SICUN in Gangtok in December 2025.
