The Maharashtra Government has constituted a high-level committee to examine and recommend amendments to the State’s cooperative laws in line with the National Cooperation Policy, 2025 and the changing needs of the cooperative sector.
The committee has been formed under the chairmanship of the Commissioner and Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Maharashtra State, Pune.
It includes senior government officials such as the Commissioner of Sugar, Maharashtra State, Pune; the Commissioner of Textiles, Maharashtra State, Nagpur; the Commissioner of Dairy Development, Maharashtra State, Mumbai; and the Director of Marketing, Maharashtra State, Pune.
Representatives from major cooperative federations and institutions have also been included in the committee. These include Vidyadhar Anaskar, Administrator, Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank Ltd.; Sanjay Khatal, Managing Director, Maharashtra State Sugar Factories Federation Ltd.; Kakasaheb Koyte, Chairman, Maharashtra Credit Cooperative Federation; Suhas Patvardhan, Chairman, Maharashtra State Co-operative Housing Federation Ltd.; Sitaram Rane, Chairman, Thane District Housing Federation Ltd.; and Vivek Jugade, General Secretary, Sahakar Bharati.
The Additional Registrar, Cooperative Societies (Administration) will function as the Member Secretary of the committee.
The Chairman has been authorised to invite other experts or individuals as required for committee meetings.
The committee has been tasked with conducting a detailed study of the existing cooperative laws and submitting its recommendations to the State Government within two months.
