The Fisheries Department of the Government of Sikkim, in collaboration with the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC)-LINAC Regional Training Centre, Kolkata, organised a district-level awareness programme on Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF) and LIFIC at College of Agricultural Engineering and Post Harvest Technology (CAEPHT), Ranipool.

The programme brought together fish farmers, students, academicians and officials to discuss opportunities in aquaculture and cooperative-led fisheries development.

Addressing the gathering, Fisheries Secretary Roshni Rai highlighted the crucial role of fish farmers in strengthening the state’s fisheries sector and improving rural livelihoods. She also announced plans for a Memorandum of Understanding with the Indo?Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) to create a reliable market for fish produced by local farmers.

During the event, fisheries equipment and fish seed were distributed to 30 beneficiaries to promote aquaculture activities.

Experts also conducted technical sessions on aquaculture insurance, organic fish farming, quality feed and cooperative support mechanisms, helping farmers explore sustainable and profitable fish farming practices in the state.
