Kedar Nath Singh, the poet of genius in Hindi literature breathed his last Monday evening causing waves of grief in the literary world. Singh was closely connected with IFFCO’s Shri Lal Shukla Memorial Sahitya Samman.

Kedar Nath Singh was the Chairman of the selection committee of 3rd IFFCO Sahitya Award which chose Shri Sanjiv as the recipient of the Award.

Mourning his death IFFCO MD Dr U S Awasthi tweeted in Hindi “I offer my condolences on the death of Kedar Nath Singhji who was a famed poet, litterateur and a winner of Gyanpeeth Award. Hindi literature has lost one of its brightest stars. Heartfelt condolences! May God rest his soul in peace! Om Shanti”.

Singh was an eminent critic and essayist. He was awarded the Jnanpith Award in 2013 and Sahitya Akademi Award in 1989 in Hindi for his poetry collection, Akaal Mein Saras.

Born in the year 1934 in village Chakia of Ballia district in eastern Uttar Pradesh he completed his graduation from a college in Varanasi. He passed M.A from Kashi Hindu University and did his Ph.D from the same University.

Teaching for a while in Gorakhpur, Kedar Nath Singh joined Jawaharlal Nehru University, where he served as a professor and the head of the department of Hindi Language. He retired as a professor from JNU and lived in Delhi.
