Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh (Lalan Singh) informed the Rajya Sabha that the Central Government has provided substantial financial assistance to Karnataka’s cooperative dairy network, particularly the Karnataka Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation (KMF) and its district-level unions.
Under the National Programme for Dairy Development (NPDD), a total of Rs 236.60 crore has been released to KMF, including Rs 3.72 crore to the Belagavi District Milk Union (BAMUL). The funds have strengthened milk chilling infrastructure, plant and village-level labs, ICT systems, and training facilities, boosting Karnataka’s cooperative dairy ecosystem.
Further, under the Rashtriya Gokul Mission (RGM), the Centre has released Rs 2.42 crore to upgrade the Nandini Semen Station at Kakolu, Bengaluru, a key breeding asset of KMF.
The Minister also noted that under the former Dairy Processing Infrastructure Development Fund (DIDF), 10 cooperative dairy projects linked to KMF were sanctioned with a combined outlay of Rs 2,479.90 crore, of which Rs 1,093.71 crore has already been disbursed to enhance processing capacity.
In Belagavi district, 33 sheep farm projects have been approved under the National Livestock Mission, benefiting rural livestock cooperatives and entrepreneurs.
Karnataka has also received 275 Mobile Veterinary Units, ensuring doorstep veterinary care even though new hospitals cannot be set up under current guidelines.
The announcements underline the Centre’s continued focus on strengthening Karnataka’s cooperative dairy and livestock sector.
