Karnataka sugar mills testing farmers’ patience

Scores of cooperative sugarcane mills in Karnataka have not made payment to sugarcane growers in the state. The defaulting mills are stretching the sugarcane farmers’ patience to the limit.

There are 63 of them but only six of them have made full payment for sugarcane. These mills owe a total amount of Rs. 3,094.8 crore to the farmers.

Hindu cites a source saying the sugarcane prices are being paid as per the Fair and Remunerative Price announced by the government. The total sugarcane crushed by these 63 mills was 4,38,87,996 metric tonnes and the sugar production stood at 48,52,023 MT until April 30.

The mills which achieved lowest sugar recovery of 7.37 per cent and 7.92 per cent are Mysore Sugars and Pandavapura Sugar, reports Hindu.
