Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has once again urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to immediately approve MSP procurement of Toor Dal through NAFED and NCCF, warning that the continued delay is pushing farmers into avoidable financial distress.
He said the State Government had formally submitted its proposal on November 6, 2025, seeking urgent clearance for MSP-based procurement, but no response has been received even after more than a month.
With peak arrivals already underway, farmers are being compelled to sell their produce at Rs 5,800–Rs 6,700 per quintal, far below the Union Government’s MSP of Rs 8,000. Siddaramaiah stressed that this widening gap is triggering distress sales and eroding farmers’ trust in the MSP system.
He noted that timely coordination between the Union and State Governments is essential for effective procurement, and growers sowed their crop expecting this support.
Reiterating his appeal, the Chief Minister sought the Prime Minister’s immediate intervention in the larger interest of farmers, cooperative federalism, and national food security.
