The Himachal Pradesh High Court has issued notices to the state government and the Kangra District Cooperative Bank over alleged misuse of cooperative funds during the 2024 Dehra bypoll.
The petition, filed by BJP leader Hoshyar Singh, claims that Rs 50,000 each was disbursed to 67 Mahila Mandals through the Kangra Cooperative Bank while the model code of conduct was in force, allegedly to influence voters.
The disbursements were linked to welfare schemes credited to women’s accounts ahead of the election.
The court’s notice marks a crucial turn, bringing the cooperative sector’s financial conduct under judicial scrutiny in a politically sensitive case involving Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s wife, Kamlesh Thakur.
