In a major setback, Prahar Janshakti Party leader Bachchu Kadu has been disqualified from his post as the Chairman of the Amravati District Central Cooperative Bank, according to media reports. The decision was issued by the Divisional Joint Registrar, citing a prior court conviction.
The case stems from a petition filed by 11 directors of the bank, including Haribhau Mohod, demanding Kadu’s disqualification from the board. They presented evidence that a Nashik court had sentenced Kadu to one year of imprisonment in a 2017 case related to obstructing government work and assaulting a public servant.
Following the conviction, the Registrar’s office issued a show-cause notice to Kadu, questioning why he should not be disqualified from holding the post for the next five years. Kadu was asked to appear personally or through a representative on 24 February at 3 PM to record his statement.
Although Kadu has challenged the conviction in the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court, the case remains under consideration. Meanwhile, the Registrar has moved forward with disqualification, marking a significant blow to Kadu’s role in the cooperative sector.
