Cooperative officials say 2,000 cooperative societies out of the total 3,000 are lying defunct in Jammu and Kashmir, reports Kasmir Monitor.

There are 1000 cooperatives doing well and these are working in the field of milk, apple and handicraft.

However, the number of cooperative societies has decreased over the years despite having huge potential for employment generation in Jammu and Kashmir, say officials.

Queried about the decline in the number, official sources said conflict is one of the most important reasons.
