The International Year of Cooperatives 2025 has emerged as a milestone for India’s cooperative sector, marking significant progress from rural heartlands to the global stage, conveys a tweet from the Ministry of Cooperation.
Over 30,000 new Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS), dairy and fisheries cooperatives have been formed so far, reflecting renewed momentum in grassroots institution-building.
In addition, 15,793 existing dairy and fisheries cooperatives have been strengthened through targeted capacity-building and support measures. The expansion is providing fresh impetus to farmers and allied sector workers, while reinforcing the rural economy through collective enterprise and local participation.
Officials said the rapid growth of cooperatives is enhancing access to credit, markets and livelihoods, underscoring the sector’s role as a key driver of inclusive and sustainable rural development during the International Year of Cooperatives.
