Marking the International Year of Cooperatives, the Government of Uttarakhand has distributed over Rs 21 crore in interest-free loans through cooperative fairs held across the state. The initiative aims to strengthen the rural economy and promote self-employment.

State Cooperation Minister Dhan Singh Rawat said that 1,038 farmers and 147 women self-help groups (SHGs) have benefited so far. The loans support activities such as animal husbandry, fisheries, floriculture, small enterprises, and other livelihood ventures. Fairs have been successfully organized in 11 districts, with another held in Tehri.

More than 500 women SHGs also sold handicrafts, organic products, traditional textiles, and local food items at the fairs, earning significant profits.

Dr. Rawat stated that the initiative has strengthened grassroots cooperatives, enhanced financial inclusion, and promoted women’s empowerment. He emphasized that such fairs are emerging as powerful platforms for rural entrepreneurship, participation, and inclusive growth in Uttarakhand.
