India extends curbs on sugar exports by one year

A news outlet says India, the world’s biggest sugar consumer, restricted exports to check a rise in domestic prices as a consequence of huge exports.

However, this does not mean the government. will not allow sugar export, said Prakash Naiknavare, managing director of the National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories while talking to a foreign news agency.

According to official sources, India has extended curbs on sugar exports by one year until October 2023.

Indian Sugar Mills Association is quoted as saying India could export up to 9 million tonnes of sugar in the 2022-23 season.
