The fertilizer giant IFFCO has welcomed the successful negotiation on Potash price with Belarus that saw its price going down by Rs 200 per bag. It has appreciated the negotiating skill of the Indian Potash Limited.

IFFCO MD Dr U S Awasthi congratulated the P S Gahlaut who is the MD of IPL for bringing down potash price. His tweet on the issue read” Congrats P S Gahlaut, MD-IPL for negotiating, bringing down #Potash prices reasonably for 1yr.Full benefit passed to farmers, cost cut by Rs200/bag.

IPL Board is populated with a number of cooperators. Several of the IFFCO Directors including its Chairman and MD as well as the Biscomaun Chairman Sunil Singh are on its Board.

Reuters, meanwhile reports that Belarus has agreed to sell potash to India at the lowest price in a decade and about a third less than last year’s level as global supplies of the crop nutrient exceed demand.

In fact, separately on Monday, Belarusian Potash Company, the AWASTHIBelarus potash export group, revealed a long-awaited sales agreement with India’s Indian Potash Limited (IPL), for 700,000 tonnes of the nutrient.

Prior to 1950, the use of Potash was sporadic, almost insignificant and demographically confined to few southern states. Potash was unknown to Indian farmers and by the dedicated field work there was acceptance of potash across India and its success story is considered one of the most remarkable sagas in annals of Indian fertilizer industry.

Even Awasthi in his tweet admits the benefits of Potash “#Potash is useful nutrient for #Soil. Helps in enhancing crop resistance towards heat & draught, makes plants strong. Good for#soil health”.
