IFFCO mourns death of RCF workers

IFFCO has expressed shock and dismay at the loss of lives in an explosion at the Trombay unit of the Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers Ltd (RCF) on Saturday. Three workers were killed and five sustained injuries in the accident.

Expressing his anguish IFFCO MD Dr U S Awasthi tweeted “ Saddened by tragic accident at #RCF #Fertilisers #Mumbai #ManojMishra. My heart goes 4 employees of #RCF. #IFFCO stand by for any help.”

According to officials, the blast occurred at around 4:30 p.m. in a boiler inside the factory that was shut down for inspection. The explosion resulted in a fire that was brought under control in a short while.

“There were three fatalities of contract workers. Those who were injured are being treated at the hospital on the RCF premises,” an RCF spokesperson said.

The deceased have been identified as Govind Kumar, Mehmood Noor Mohammed and Dilip Pawar, while the injured people have been identified as Sayyed Sadiq, Jaishankar Sharma, Rahul Shinde, Shashikant Dalvi and Ravindra Kamble.

Several of IFFCO MD’s followers have also expressed their shock and have tried to assure him of fool-proof safety measures being observed in IFFCO’s factories. One of them replied “ @drusawasthi Sad news,In IFFCO human and job safety are always first priority, Aonla unit 2 annual shut down and start up done successfully. Another tweet read “ @drusawasthi safety should be 1st priority. @IFFCO_PR always works with the safety of its employees.”
