Even as the agitation in the wake of the death of a contract labour in Paradip plant of IFFCO has subsided, IFFCO MD is leaving for the plant on Wednesday.

“I am going there to meet our people and talk to them”, Awasthi said to Indian Cooperative denying his visit was connected to the agitations which was called off after local IFFCO office promised employment to a member of the family of the deceased.

Readers would note that contract workers demonstrated in front of IFFCO plant on Monday demanding compensation of Rs.10 lakh and job opportunity for the death of a contract worker. Phugu Swain, 40 was working as contract worker in the transport section of IFFCO plant under contract. Due to prolonged illness, Swain who was hospitalized at a private nursing home in Cuttack died on Monday, reports The Statesman.

Even thought it was not a death on duty and Swain died due to chronic illness IFFCO officers intervened and assured they would provide a job to a member of the bereaved family, informed one of the officials to Indian Cooperative.
