Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik laid the foundation stone of a Sulphuric Acid Plant of fertilizer cooperative IFFCO at its Paradip unit virtually on Friday last week.

The project conceptualised in January this year will cost Rs 400 crore. The project will be operational in 2023.

Sharing the news, IFFCO MD Dr U S Awasthi wrote, “A proud moment for #IFFCO as Sh. Naveen Patnaik Ji @Naveen_Odisha laid the foundation stone of a Sulphuric Acid Plant with advanced technology; yet another expansion of IFFCO at Paradeep. @kjpatelparadeep , Unit Head Paradeep along with other officials were present.

The new plant will reduce dependence on import of the chemical, utilisation of waste heat-based energy to reduce burden on the power generation sector, contribute to climate change initiatives by reducing carbon emission and greenhouse gases, generate employment and contribute to overall economic development, New Indian Express reports.

IFFCO is expanding its sulphuric acid production capacity by the installation of the third plant with a capacity of 2,000 metric tonne (MT) per day.
