The newly elected President of the global cooperative body ICA Ms Monique Leroux thanked IFFCO profusely when its MD Dr U S Awasthi phoned her to congratulate on her massive victory in the recently concluded elections.
Ms Leroux polled 407 votes while the runner up Ariel Guarco from Argentina polled 204.Third candidate Jean Louis Bancel from France polled 66 and Euides De Freitas Aquino from Brazil polled 64 votes.
Referring to his conversation with Ms Monique Leroux in the wake of her election to the top global post Dr Awasthi tweeted “Mrs.Awasthi @awsathi_rekha Spoke 2 @MoniqueFLeroux on phone & congratulated her 4 victory. She thanked #IFFCO 4 support @icacoop.
A Canadian national and Chief of Desjardins Group, Ms Monique’s Jaipur trip last month in this context proved crucial as she interacted with cooperators and impressed them with her strong candidacy. She had also met NCUI President Shri Chandra Pal seeking his support.
As a result Ms Monique Leroux received unstinted support from Chandra Pal Singh and his team. Talking to Indian Cooperatives Biscomaun Chairman Sunil Kumar Singh said “we deposited all the ballots in favour of Ms Leroux to IFFCO Chairman B.S.Nakia on the instructions of NCUI President”. Leroux had thanked Indian team for its support at Antalya.
IFFCO Chairman Sh.Balvinder Nakai led IFFCO team to Antalya with a strong team of almost all the Directors except the MD. Several officials of IFFCO had also gone to attend the General Assembly of ICA.
A formidable cooperator Ms Leroux is also president, chair of the board and chief executive officer of Desjardins Group, a federation of 400 credit unions and numerous subsidiaries claiming 7 million members and clients in Canada and operating, through Dévelopment international Desjardins, in more than 30 emerging and developing countries.
