ICA Board meets in Egypt; Chandra Pal & Sanghani attend

The global apex body of cooperatives ICA held its board meeting in Cairo (Egypt) in which besides global board members, an Indian contingent led by Chandra Pal Singh Yadav and Dileep Sanghani also participated.

Besides the ICA Board meeting, the magnificent St. Regis Almasa in New Cairo is also hosting two important events–the 13th Africa Ministerial Cooperative Conference and the 4th International Conference on Cooperative Housing, informs a tweet of Balu Iyer, Regional Director of ICA Asia-Pacific. There is no official release on the events yet from the ICA and even its website is silent on them.

However, some of the leaders of ICA have tweeted giving nuggets of information. Tweeting about the event, ICA President Ariel Gaurco said “We are in Egypt to carry out the @icacoop board meeting and promote housing cooperatives together, among other things like training and exchange activities.

Gaurco added “Africa is a young, powerful continent where the cooperative model has much to offer to the world”. Africa is the youngest continent on the planet, which is both a challenge and an asset. The youth are the future leaders of the cooperative movement.

Their commitment is to take this knowledge back home; apply it; share it with their colleagues, and help grow the movement, underlined the President.

Gaurco was happy to note that young leaders from Botswana, Kenya, Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Cameroon, Morocco, Nigeria and Egypt are taking training in management and leadership as it applies to cooperative housing.

The Indian team is returning tonight as there is a Governing Council meeting of the apex national body NCUI on Tuesday. “I will brief you on the Cairo visit once I am back on 17th, ” NCUI President Dileep Sanghani had said just before leaving for Egypt.
