Haryana: No new currencies in co-op banks

A sum of Rs 7,000 crore is lying unutilized in Haryana’s district central cooperative banks causing inconvenience to more than a million farmers, reports Times of India.

These banks are not yet supplied with enough new currency notes as they have got Rs 20 crore in lieu of Rs 475 crore deposited after the Union government banned the exchange of currency notes.

The banks had exchanged the currency between November 10 and 13, till the Reserve Bank issued directive barring them.

According to an estimate, these banks have around 14 lakh consumers, including 9 lakh farmers that are actively involved in the bank transactions and loan advancement and recoveries across the state
