Haryana: Co-ops stopped from charging money

The cooperative department in Haryana has asked all cooperative banks of the state not to charge Rs 100 from the candidates seeking no-dues certificates for contesting the upcoming panchayat elections, says Times of India.

Cooperative officials said directions had been issued to all managing directors of cooperative banks to inform their staff in villages not to charge money for issuing the certificates.

State elections commissioner has also taken up the matter with the authorities concerned.

Meanwhile, opposition Indian National Lok Dal has called upon the state govt. to probe the circumstance under which villagers were made to pay for getting no-dues certificate from cooperative banks.

According to the newspaper report, cooperative banks could make a huge profit from a couple of lakhs of nominations likely to be filed for these posts.
