Union Minister of State for Cooperation Krishan Pal Gurjar will address a national seminar on “Elections in Multi-State Cooperative Societies with Transparency & Integrity” today on March 12, 2026, at Vigyan Bhawan. The event is expected to bring together senior policymakers, cooperative leaders, administrators and sector experts to deliberate on strengthening transparency and fairness in the electoral processes of Multi-State Cooperative Societies (MSCS).
The seminar is being organised as part of broader efforts by the Ministry of Cooperation to reinforce democratic governance and institutional accountability within the cooperative sector. Officials from the ministry, representatives of major multi-state cooperative societies and delegates from different parts of the country are expected to attend the discussions.
Apart from the minister, senior government functionaries including the Chief Economic Adviser (CEA) and other policy experts are also likely to participate and share their perspectives on improving governance frameworks in cooperative institutions. The gathering will provide a platform for stakeholders to exchange views on ensuring that election procedures in multi-state cooperatives remain transparent, fair and credible.
Multi-State Cooperative Societies play a significant role in sectors such as agriculture, fertilizers, dairy, banking and rural development, connecting millions of farmers and cooperative members across different states. Given their wide membership and economic importance, ensuring transparent and accountable elections within these institutions has become a key governance priority.
The seminar will focus on identifying best practices that can strengthen election management in cooperatives and safeguard the democratic rights of members. Discussions are expected to cover regulatory measures, institutional reforms and improved monitoring mechanisms required to ensure free and fair elections in cooperative bodies operating across state boundaries.
Participants will also deliberate on ways to enhance the credibility of electoral processes through improved procedures, greater transparency in nomination and voting systems, and stronger oversight mechanisms. Experts are expected to highlight the need for robust governance practices that reinforce trust among members and stakeholders.
Officials believe that transparent election systems are essential for maintaining the integrity and credibility of cooperative institutions. By ensuring fair representation and accountable leadership, such measures help cooperatives function more effectively and remain responsive to the needs of their members.
The seminar forms part of the government’s continuing efforts to strengthen the cooperative movement by promoting good governance, transparency and institutional integrity. The discussions and recommendations emerging from the event are expected to contribute to policy improvements and further strengthen democratic functioning within multi-state cooperative societies across the country.
