Phosphatic and Potassic (P&K) fertilizers, including Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP), are under Open General License, allowing companies to freely import or manufacture them. In 2023-24, India imported 56.71 LMT of DAP, with PoS sales at 109.72 LMT; in 2024-25, imports fell to 49.72 LMT and sales to 96.29 LMT.
To reduce import reliance, the government is promoting innovative fertilizers such as Nano DAP, Nano Urea, and fortified formulations, enhancing nutrient efficiency and lowering usage rates.
Several Nano DAP variants by IFFCO, CIL, Zuari Farm Hub, and Natural Plant Protection Ltd. have been notified under the Fertilizer Control Order. Awareness drives, field demonstrations, Kisan Sammelans, and drone-based foliar applications are underway.
Nano fertilizers are stocked at PMKSKs and included in the monthly supply plan. The Department of Fertilizers, with industry partners, has launched a “Maha Abhiyan” across 15 agro-climatic zones to popularize Nano DAP, alongside campaigns for Nano Urea Plus in 100 districts.
